Alamara - Malayalam soap opera in 120 minutes.

Alamara checks all the boxes of a deluded and forgetful Malayalam film. You get the feeling that the film maker has only seen Malayalam serials so far. It seems this is the stock clearance sale for  Midhun Manual Thomas. His Om Shanti Oshana was cheerful and cute and Aadu had a few laughs and a few memorable characters. Alamara pretty much has nothing to offer.

Its the story of a couple, falling in love (over a cold beverage in three minutes), their families at loggerheads from the beginning, them still getting married, usual family drama that ensues, getting divorced and then getting back together again.  The film maker has done nothing to make us feel for the characters. They are caricatures one finds in a 1500 episode long serial, to an extend that I felt relieved when the couple got divorced. The movie is so pointless and full of negativity that you forget that its supposed to be a comedy film.

If there is something worse that than the horrible characters in this movie, its the actors who play them. Sunny Wayne as usual inexplicably whispers all his dialogues in a monotone, Saiju Kurup tries his best to be funny while Aju Varghese is not even trying. Manikandan's talent sinks under the weight of the pointless dialogues and Salim Kumar's voice over is faintly amusing. Noisy and forgetful music and the lukewarm visuals aren't helping either. Alamara is one movie on which you don't want to waste your money.

Rating: That thing stuck to the bottom of your shoe which you just cant wait to wash off once you reach home.
